Now Open! Language Justice Workshop Series

Enrolling through March 2024

Everyone in your organization has an important role to play in promoting language justice!

A two-workshop series for organizations who want to deepen their understanding and practice of language justice. Organizations wanting to bring these workshops to their colleagues can invite us in.

  • Language Justice 101 (required to take the second workshop): In this first workshop, participants will examine the history, meaning, and applications of language justice from multiple perspectives and understandings at the individual, interpersonal, community, and institutional levels. Participants will also identify and evaluate specific change strategies to address language injustice in their work and decenter English-dominant ways of participation.
  • Working with Language Workers: Participants will learn about the definitions and applications of interpretation, translation, and other accessibility-centered language work in community-based settings. Participants will then discuss and devise best practices to collaborate with language workers and support communication among linguistically diverse community stakeholders.

Individuals can join future public workshops. Join the wait list here.

Now Open! Interpreting Club

Youth-led, adult-supported after-school program at the John D. O’Bryant School of Math and Science in Boston, Massachusetts. Founded in 2019.

Students learn together through games, practice exercises, and interactive and reflective activities. Students draw from their own valuable experiences to gain knowledge and skills about various interpreting fields and explore a variety of topics related to language and the career of interpretation and translation. The club spreads awareness of the language injustices present in our communities and what students can do about it. We cover everything from the history of interpreting and translating to “What would you do?” situations to actually putting student interpreting skills to the test through simultaneous interpretation.

During the 2022-2023 school year, the student leaders focused on their first year of college and completed their medical interpreting certificate programs.

The Club starts October 25, 2023.

Language Justice Blueprint

A 6-month cohort experience for organizations eager to embed language justice into their work and increase the participation of culturally and linguistically diverse community members.

Organizations co-learn, co-create, and collaborate to answer the question: “How does language justice impact and uplift our work?” and build a collective vision of language justice as well as an actionable Language Justice Plan to achieve it.

Cohort 1 ran in 2022 and we’re working behind the scenes to plan Cohort 2!

Community Interpreting Certificate Program

You can join as an individual or as an organization. Maximum 25 participants total.
