History
- Since 2016, we’ve been working on building language justice capacity in the Greater Boston Area in various roles and spaces.
- As immigrants, we have lived experience with fighting language injustice in our own lives, with our families, and with our communities.
- We formalized Unbound Language Justice Cooperative in the spring of 2021.
2014
Loreto & Catalina meet as community artists at R Visions for Chinatown
2016
Interpreting for Social Justice: Loreto and Catalina meet again at this training facilitated by Roberto Tijerina, who developed the curriculum at the Highlander Research and Education Center. It was offered through the Boston Interpreters Collective; Loreto and Catalina join the collective.
2019
Begin to articulate the work: Loreto and Catalina start drafting the vision, mission, values, and services of what will later become this cooperative with the strategic planning support of Lyre Calliope.
Meet Angélica through the Boston University Interpreting Studies Program, where Loreto and Angélica are enrolled.
Start participatory research with immigrant mothers along with a team of collaborators through the Boston University School of Social Work.
Develop Multilingual Intergenerational Storytelling Soundscapes, a virtual art project. Funded by Nexus Community Partners.
2020
Angélica joins as co-founder.
2021
Launch cooperative with the legal support of the Harvard Law School and Suffolk Law School Legal Clinics.
