Mission
The mission of Unbound Language Justice Cooperative is to embed language justice at the personal, community, and institutional levels by fostering spaces that support people’s right to collective power, self-determination, and equitable communication.
Vision
We envision a world where all languages can be a tool for self-determination, connection, joy, and expression.
Short term: local focus & national connection
- Focus our impact on the Greater Boston Area.
- Build nationwide relationships within the movement for language justice.
Medium term: movements & systems
- Movements are truly multilingual, where there’s no one dominant language or way to communicate and where people build and interact directly with each other.
- Systems are transformed so that they are designed by those most affected in solidarity with and supported by others. Language justice is part of all solutions to injustice.
Long term: culture shift
- All societies recognize the power and inherited historical oppressions embedded in language.
- People are mindful of and intentional with their words, use of language, and communication, and the impact of the language they choose.
